For our first "Tadpole Blog Day" I picked Kristian Matsson who, for the past four years, has been touring and writing music under the pseudonym "The Tallest Man on Earth". Matssons music is a mixture of sixties sounding acoustic, Bob Dylan-esque folk with a modernized indie twist. Since leaving his previous band which was called Montezuma’s, Matsson has released two EPs and two full length albums.
While Matssons main draw is his excellent songwriting and his unique voice, his guitar playing is the real unsung hero of his songs. A single well played acoustic guitar is the perfect accompaniment to Matssons voice and lyrics. On one track on his most recent EP which was entitled "Sometimes the Blues are Just a Passing Bird" Mattson plays an electric guitar (GASP!) and doesn't miss a single beat.
As far as style goes, Matssons could only be described as dynamic. His guitar playing never sounds simplistic or out of place, which is especially impressive considering that a majority of the duration of his songs are dominated by his voice and lyrics. His guitar playing gives his songs a unique atmosphere, almost as unique as his voice.
