Classic/Modern Influence Track of the Week-Pavement and The Unicorns

Welcome to Classic track of the Moment week one! What ive decided to do is every now and again have two tracks of the moment, one a classic track, and another a more modern track that is influenced by the earlier track. For today I thought I’d pick two Lo-Fi tracks from Pavement and The Unicorns. What’s most similar about the two bands overall has to be their sound and the randomness of some of their lyrics. It is absolutely impossible to think about the Unicorns in terms of influence without mentioning Pavement. Pavement was one of the biggest Lo-Fi bands from the nineties and they released several fantastic albums that were extremely influential. While The Unicorns only released one, the fantastic Who Will Cut Our Hair When We’re Gone, but it is easy to see where their influences are. See if you cant pick up similarities and differences in their sounds, especially the tone, the lyrical delivery, and the lyrics themselves.
