Track of the Moment-Breezin by Sepalcure
Sepalcure is a collaboration between Machinedrum and Percussion Lab, and darn do they sound good together. They produce an eclectic style of electronic music, mixing Burial esque dubstep, dance, techno, and Italo-disco, into something that is unique but at the same time familiar. While the self titled album borrows heavily from dance, its not really music you could dance too, it’s a bit too hazy and down tempo for that, not to mention that the songs have a sort of linear progression to them as opposed to being repetitive as most dance numbers are (there is more to be said here about their sound by someone who knows more about the genre than I do, honestly who the hell has time to keep up with trends in electronic music, seeing as how they move as quickly as their genres namesake). Sepalcure uses lyrics as texture and to set mood, the track of the moment today, which I feel does that especially well is the song Breezin’. It’s a bit of a deep cut, but it is gratifying to listen to. You should definitely check out the album, I have nothing but good things to say about it, the songs Pencil Pimp and Me really stand out, the album is good on the whole.

The reason you can't dance to it is the lack of hard-hitting bass and the mellow melody. Modern dance needs a loud bass to set an obvious beat, and the music on top of that has to be exciting. Not that this makes this a bad song, but it's not something you'll hear it in a club
ReplyDeleteThats true, you wouldnt hear it in a traditional club (at least not in Philly) but there is plenty of dance music that doesnt focus on the loud bass and heavy beat that you describe.
