Track of the Moment: One Man Mutiny by Tommy Stinson

It’s really great when I hear about something happening regarding music, and I think “Wow that’s cool. I wish I could let people know about this…O WAIT I CAN.” Yes, we might not have the biggest reader base on this humble little plot we call a blog, but the fact that you’re reading this now is a testament to the fact that I can at least tell someone something.

Tommy Stinson is the bassist for Guns N’ Roses and Soul Asylum, however, he is probably most known for being the bassist for the Replacements, as well as the front man for the subsequent post-Replacement projects. He released his second solo LP “One Man Mutiny” August of last year. He has been using part of the proceeds to help the Timkatec Schools in Haiti, which takes educates and shelters homeless children. This is a cause he’s been committed to especially after the earthquake in 2010.

To be honest this wasn’t my original track of the week. I was originally going to cover “It’’s a Drag” a pretty rocking cut from the album, but couldn’t find a good studio version of the song (What the heck Internet?!?!) You can check it out here on Soundcloud http://soundcloud.com/clutch-cargo/its-a-drag-tommy-stinson. Instead here’s a more somber track, the title track from his new album.

He played at the “Milkboy” in Philly yesterday (and I thought I heard he was playing at world café live tomorrow, but I haven’t found anything online confirming that.) Anyway, if you like what you hear I’d recommend you head over to http://tommystinson.com/ and check out where he’ll be next. You could also see some of his photos from his trip to Haiti, and pick up some swag, especially since proceeds will go to help out this worthy cause.
