Nothing helps to fix the Monday blues like some good
news! In this case I found out the
Dum Dum Girls are coming out with a new EP. If there’s one thing I like more then noise rock is
dream-pop noise rock, and the Dum Dum girls newest release was chock full of
that noise. Their name allegedly comes from The Vaselines' album “Dum Dum” and the
Iggy Pop song "Dum Dum Boys" which helps to give you a bit of an idea
of what they’re about.
This foursome from Sub Pop records
has a great splash of nostalgia in their style. Even the music video has a great yesteryear feel to it. Between the bright backdrop, outfits,
and kaleidoscope effect it manages to be entertaining without having to use
much more then show them playing music.
One complaint I often have with pop
is that it’s so sterilized. The
production is so prevalent in the music making it “perfect” and removing the
human element from the music.
These guys are certainly poppy, but they seem like they could be just as
home in a garage as they do in a studio.
Take a listen and judge for yourself. Be on the look out for “End of Daze” dropping (hopefully) September 25th. For news and tour dates check out their website.
Hey! We have a website too. We call it the facebook and you should like us on it if you're so inclined.
