Track of the Moment-Kill Your Co-Workers by Flying Lotus
I would call the above track Flying Lotus’ most accessible track. Now if you already have heard the track or are listening to the song for the first time while reading this and you have never heard of Flying Lotus, than you must being thinking “What?” but yes believe it or not I firmly believe that Kill Your Co-Workers from the album Pattern+Grid World is probably his easiest to listen to by itself song. And as you can probably gather by now, for Flying Lotus, easiest to listen to does not mean unintelligent, simple, or normal. On the contrary, this track, its name, and the video are some of Lotus’ strangest material for sure. Pattern+Grid World is a damn good Ep and it makes me really excited to see what Flying Lotus decides to follow up his last genius album Cosmogramma with. For someone who is on the go, a Flying Lotus Ep is perfect for listening to experimental music in compact. Lets be honest, I like experimental bands like Black Dice and Om, but don’t always have the time to listen to every single detail when every song is over eight minutes. Flying Lotus requires can take an extreme focus too, not because his songs are long (there are seventeen on Cosmogramma and the whole thing is only 45 minutes or so), but rather there is a lot going on on every one of his albums, and its easy to miss things. So instead of setting the listener up for a lengthy sit down and listen, Flying Lotus more encourages the take a track or a segment from an album and listen to it over and over again. And that is sort of what I like most about Pattern+Grid World is its compact nature. It is short; only 19 minutes, but it never really feels short much like how Kill Your Co-Workers is poppy, but never really feels poppy.
