Track of the Moment- Maya by Buffalo Stance

I have an uncle like Buffalo Stance. That’s not to say that my uncle can play keyboards, has a solo career, or is a member of Man Man. No, the uncle I’m thinking of spends a lot of time in his basement drinking, he is an older gentleman, and can range from being charming and funny to distant and off-putting. Now, and I mean this in the nicest way possible, what I just described is the exact personality that Buffalo Stance conveys when he gets up on stage. Having seen him open for Mister Heavenly, a band that has fellow Man Man member Honus Honus singing and playing keyboards, he has a certain devil-may-care attitude, not the smooth kind that comes along with James Dean, but the sort of crotchety kind. And believe it or not, this really works well for him. That’s why on his debut album under the moniker Buffalo Stance entitled Sugar Glider one of my favorite tracks is the one that hints most at that isolationist everyman theme. The track Maya, which has fantastical lyrics about girls and giant butterflies, also contains a lyric that’s a little more real, a line about removing and replacing a TV dinner tray table from its spot behind the couch which among the daydream-esque lyrics is strikingly different and poignant.

Unfortunatly the album version wasnt up on youtube, but take a listen to the live version above, and if you get the chance give the album one some love too.
