Its not uncommon for electronic artists/producers/rappers/rockers/anybody/kids on Halloween/serial killers/why am I still doing this/one more/masked vigilantes to hide behind masks. What is uncommon though is to find one said masked persona that actually lives up to hype. One such person is Batman. Another is SBTRKT. For those of you who don’t know (and how could you?), its pronounced Subtract. Now I know what you are thinking; wears a mask, took the vowels out of his stage name, must be a total tool, and you’d be wrong. Oddly enough SBTRKT shows great skill. In a world where brostep is a thing, SBTRKT makes especially classy music, that is at the same time, fun to dance to an enjoyable listen. His sound has been described as soulful electronic music, and that description is spot on. His electronic songs are what I would call very restrained, he really either A) Puts emphasis on his own or a guests singing, or B) Holds out getting really flashy with his beats and electronics to set an ambient mood or to lead into a crescendo (Aphex Twin anybody?). Anyway its just good. Check it out here is the single from his selftitled album called Wildfire, here SBTRKT features a singer, but his album is worth checking out for his singing alone which is very good. ALso the video is pretty boss, I particularly like how the single cover for Wildfire is the lampshade.
