Mark’s Pick of The Week: The Lion’s Roar by First Aid Kit

It’s crazy to think there are people my age garnering fame in the music business, and by fame I don’t mean a one off ep with a local indie label. The folk duo First Aid Kit already have two critically acclaimed albums and one critically acclaimed ep. Consisting of Johanna and Klara Söderberg, these Swedish born sisters first gained a viral fanclub from their cover of “Tiger Mountain Peasant Song” by the Fleet Foxes.
They began composing music in 2007, and have some pretty impressive work to show for it. Exhibiting amazing harmonizing abilities, and drawing pieces from fantastic influences, including Fleet Foxes, these girls write songs about love and life that in no way betray their age.
Their most recent album “The Lions Roar” is making waves worldwide, (It even reached 1 in Sweden.) The album has a fantastic natural feel right off the bat like it was recorded in the woods rather then a studio. Even in the voices you can feel an echo in the stillness that you can really only get when you smash the silence of a place that has been truly undisturbed by mankind. Anyone who spent their childhood exploring the parks and forests around their home knows what I mean.

Another thing I like about this album is it's staying power.  The song added above is the final   Easily my favorite album of the year so far.  Every single song on the LP is very good, which is a tough thing to pull off.  The above song is my favorite track on the album, and is coincidentally the last song which helps to illustrate how consistent this album is.
I chose to end the post with the track “You’re Not Coming Home Tonight” because I think it shows off both their song writing, and the woodsy vibe the album gives off. Also check out their facebook, and website for news and tour dates.
