Track of the Moment- Odessa by Caribou

Electronic pop is a relatively new phenomenon (compared to Beethoven anyway) and two years ago we received a real treat in the form of Swim by Caribou. Caribou is Dan Snaith, a man who makes eclectic electronic pop that you can certainly dance to. The album is rich with songs that demand to be listened too over and over again, tracks like Leave House, Sun, and of course Odessa which is today’s track of the moment. Odessa is a great single worthy song featuring soulful vocals and really catchy lyrics. Whats more is that underneath those lyrics the beat is infectious, the type of production that can highlights the vocals extremely well but then subtly steals the show as the verses repeat. At the same time the song sounds minimal, although it can be tricky to actually point out why. Despite their catchiness the vocals seem small and distant; they are softly spoken with a sparse melodic sense giving the song a melancholic self reflective tone. It is an interesting listen to say the least.
