Track of the Moment- Spain by Twin Sister
Now I have put a song by Twin Sister here before, but Im feeling nostalgic so here is another. This time it is the track Spain which is very very different than that other track that I posted about Bad Street. If you recall (or if I were responsible I could link to it, but tough) in that pick I praised Twin Sister as being the embodiment of cute, and indeed that is true. On the track Spain we get to see another side of that cuteness. Twin Sister’s In Heaven is an album of longing, from the single Bad Street that reiterates the line “I Want it Bad” to the opener Daniel which expresses a deep longing for the touch of another, whoever writes the lyrics for Twin Sister wants things and it is evident that they don’t always get them. That’s what Spains focus is. The track has the Spanish pomp and musical flair of The White Stripes’s Conquest mixed with the sexual frustration of unrequited love from Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises. The song has an overly romantic aesthetic to it too, in the sense that the singers Jersey roots long for the thrill and exuberance of something outside of the ordinary, personified by Spanish culture and music.
