Track of the Moment- They Always Fly Away by Blouse

Its interesting to think that a band would want to associate itself with making people fall asleep, but that is precisely what Blouse, a dream pop band does. Borrowing heavily from eighties lo-fi bands like The Jesus and Mary Chain and Shoegaze, Blouse isn’t all that innovative; no there sound has been done before, but part of that is the point. They use familiarity to gently take you by the hand and ease you into a warm bed. As the band’s name would suggest they have a soft sound propelled into dream space by soft electronics, killer bass and wispy lyrics. The lyricist sounds a bit like Trish Keenan with heavy reverb, the lyrics are all quite somber but good, the whole thing strings together like the threads of the shirts that the band takes its name from. Interestingly the bass player is the same guy who lays down the bass for Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and some of the lines are very good but are put into the background to fit the tone of the album. Todays track is They Always Fly Away, a favorite of mine from Blouse’s first full length. It has impressively poetic lyrics about birds on a wire that really reflect the talent present on the album.
