It’s not a very tough question: What’s surf rock? Most people will bring to mind the infamous 12 bar blues number “Wipeout” by the Surfaries. Or they also might think of bands like the Beach Boys or Dick Dale and the Del-Tones. The songs are heavy on electric guitar, with a driving bass and fast "big band" sounding drums. However, can you name on of these bands formed after 1970’s?
It’s sad to think that the surf rock explosion lasted about 4 years (1960-1964) because of the British invasion, and major changes in the industry. Either the bands changed or fell out of notoriety right as the genre was really starting to find footing. Even so, it has had a major impact on rock throughout the years. However, if you’re not content with the idea that surf rock is something that was, then this is the album for you.
This album is so classic it’s crazy to think it came out in 2010. This four piece from West Palm Beach, Florida have the kind of sound that makes you want to throw on your swim trunks and catch some waves. I’ve already given you enough of a history lesson so I’ll just let you listen, enjoy, and pine for the summer that is just a few short months away.
Their most recent release is the EP Tarot Classics and right now they’re currently in the studio working on their sophomore album.
