I think the thing that I like most about the song Gold Soundz by Pavement is that after twenties years, the song is now the Gold Soundz that Malkmus urges you to go back too. I guess the line at the time was about giving up, returning to the past, and living in it without any regard of the present or future. Now however with twenty years of hindsight it sort of has a different meaning, its like the band is begging you to give them another listen, it sounds desperate, and that really works for the band and song. Ultimately the irony is that Pavement doesn’t need you, and it’s funny then to think of them, one of the best bands of the 90’s as begging for an audience. Anyway as they say, you can never quarantine the past, so why try? Have a listen.
