Track of the Moment- Maximalist by Baths

One of the acts that really turned me on to electronic music was Baths. Now ambient pop love songs may be a strange place to enter the electronic scene, but for some reason the songs resonated with me. The cut up glitchy drum beats and electronic noise paired with simple samples just seemed like a better way to define relationships than a simple three chord two minute affair. With that said Baths is really very good at what it sets out to do. Today’s track exemplifies the skill with which the songs are orchestrated. What it also does is use simple vocal samples to channel the songs emotionality. The samples say simple things, the first says “Love”, the second says “My Life”, the third interjects “It really takes a lot of courage to go out there and radiate your essence”. Coherently these samples add a lot to the music, they also punctuate the beat changes, adding a concise beginning and end to certain parts of the song.
