A Gentlemanly Conversation with Kursed

Let’s get down to Brass Tacks!  We got a new interview.  Kursed is a French grunge band I spoke of in a previous article, oh and here it is!  When I heard these guys I had to learn more, so Steve and I hopped on a plane to France.  Unfortunately, we got deported because Steve is apparently on one of those “watch lists”…anyway since we’re no longer detained in a French prison, so I emailed Hugo, guitarist and vocals, and got this.

Could you guys kind of fill us in to how you guys met, and formed the band?

Kursed at the start was just a group of friends who used to play to pass the time, to have fun and who progressively discovered a real passion for music. We played in our first concerts quite young following up with our first recording studio experience. Now Kursed is part of our lives.

What have you guys been up to since your last release?

Our album is available in stores, we've toured around France and Belgium, we've recorded a video clip (Perfect mean), been on Tv shows (Canal+ France, 3ème gauche TV),  on a National Radio show (Le Mouv’), and now we're preparing our new album “Miaow” and a tour !

Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

BRMC, The white stripes, Artic monkeys, The vines, QOTSA, Band of skulls, The black box revelation, the Blacks keys, Miles kane, Led zeppelin, Johnny cash, Ray Charles, The beatles, The Pixies, Sonic youth, Radiohead …

Your songs are in English.  Is there a reason you guys decided this over French

A friend of mine says, when asked this question, : have you heard Flamenco in german ? No, so "Rock’n roll" is in English !  haha, It’s a joke, but I agree !
I have another project in French, but it’s not Rock music, it’s more blues, pop …
Kursed is in English !

Have you guys been traveling much because of the band?

We've been around France and Belgium, but It's only the beginning

Have you been up to the United States yet?

No, but I really want to !

Are you guys oddities in the French music scene, or are there a lot of other bands there with you kind of sound.

No, there are a lot of Rock bands in France, but the media (Tv, Radio, Zine) don’t talk about independent bands … It sucks

Where did you guys film the “Perfect Mean” video?  It doesn’t look like any coffee shop I’ve been to.

This is in a old garage, like an old warehouse
In the Clip it is a private poker game, We are the Mafia, who take some coffee drugs ! :)

Do you guys have a favorite song to perform, and why?

Not really, it depends of the show, and public.

If you check out the last article...fine I'll post it again, you can download some free tracks from these guys.  Also their facebook, myspace, and here's a video!
