The song that I always associate with Disco Inferno’s Summers Last Sound has always been Yung Humma’s Fried or Fertilized. It’s a loose connection at best though, the way the electronic noises at the beginning of the song lull over D.I.’s beat like seagulls on open water is just too damn reminiscent of Yung Humma’s lyrical musings “Was that your stomach growlin’ or was it birds chirpin?” As it turns out those last sounds of summer are neither birds nor the stomach of the young lady that Yung Humma is trying to seduce, but rather brilliant electronics that accompany a brilliant song with brilliant lyrics. Disco Inferno are a very British band, that made great music during the early to mid ninties. They were real pioneers in incorporating intricate electronics into music with lyrics and more traditional structures, and their songs still sound good today.
