Track of The Moment: God Shuffled His Feet by Crash Test Dummies

Sometimes a song has a hook that’s something really all it’s own. In this song’s case the hook is in the intro. The song opens with the sound of a record scratching, and the rhythm has got stuck in my head countless times throughout my life, and I’ve never been upset about it!
The band itself is an art folk band straight outta Canada. Brad Roberts, the vocalist, has a fantastic bass voice that is another really defining feature of the band. The art rock sound of this band doesn’t lend to them being extremely accessible, but between the singles, and albums they’ve put out for the last 20 years I think they’re certainly a band worth checking out.
This song is the opening track and title track from their 1993 album that happened to garner a little mainstream success. It tells the story of God throwing a picnic on the Sabbath, and realizing that he and his people have really nothing to talk about at a casual picnic. The lyrics are clever, and I think might really depict what would happen in this situation. Check them out here
