Track of the Moment: #STUPIDFACEDD by Wallpaper.

Wallpaper. (yes, it is spelled with a period at the end, which will make Microsoft Word freak out and me want to punch through my monitor) is a strange, strange band. Or person. It’s hard to tell. He/they are definitely in a The Mountain Goats situation. Or Bon Jovi. And to give a little musical perspective to the situation, on Facebook their favorite bands/musicians are George Clinton and Boyz II Men.

Ricky Reed (a character played by Eric Fredric) is the front man of himself/the group has a solid backup of people whose name I can’t find on Google, but have seen them in their live videos. However, Ricky Reed is the only name you need to know. He’s the singer, songwriter, producer, “viral media hustler and disco ball-busting crowd destroyer” (according his website, although I can’t really dispute this one). He originally formed Wallpaper. in order to make fun of pop music (the name stems from how pop music is just like wallpaper; it’s paper thin and just there to look pretty), but, while doing so, he created really good music. His irony is present in #STUPIDFACEDD, with the lyric “Can’t sing good/Don’t matter/Can’t rap good/Don’t matter”, and then goes into how drunk he is. And then the bass. My god the bass. It will make a dubstepper weak at the knees (which was the point). Wallpaper. knew exactly what they were doing when they crafted this song, and really all of their songs in order to turn them into critiques of modern pop music.

This isn’t an ironic band like Turquoise Jeep; they make real music. It just has a bit of a bite. So if you’re into Stephen Colbert and find yourself wearing 2 Pairs of Shades on Saturday and Sunday, check them out.
