Track of the Moment- Dream Baby Dream by Suicide covered by Neneh Cherry & The Thing

While avant-garde jazz music isn’t something I normally would listen to, but after giving The Cherry Thing, a collaboration between Neneh Cherry and the three man jazz outfit The Thing, you might just start seeing a little bit more jazz around here on the blog. The album is a collection of songs, most of which are covers, that feature Cherry’s sultry voice being backed by strange horns and basses of all manner. The strongest song here is her cover of Suicide's Dream Baby Dream, and while I think I have already made the Black Tambourines cover of that same song a track of the moment, I dont particularly care. So here you go.

Black Tambourine was a band that never really made it from the late nineties- early two thousands. And while their discography is limited, the more recently released compilation that contains all of their recorded materials is good and gives a well rounded complete look at the bands work. Half pop, half shoegaze, they do a lot of what the post-punk revivalist scene is doing now, it’s a shame they never caught on. Anyway here take a listen to an excellent cover they offer up by Suicide, Dream Baby Dream. The original is dark and creepy, to hear it reinterpreted as a love song here is clever and daring to cover a band with as much of an eye for art as Suicide.
