Its impossible to discuss King Krule without bring up his age. But for someone who has only officially released five tracks, and is only seventeen, he sounds like a veteran. Archie (yeah his real name is Archie) walks you through his existence with sad lyrics and the introspective buzz that hangs around them. And while many a band would be content to hang their hat on those elements alone (as many have) King Krule strives for something more, an extra “umph” which presents itself in two ways on the track The Ghost of Jah City. The first x factor is Archie’s crooning voice, which could be compared to David Bowie doing a Tom Waits impression, a sort of junk yard blues in a thick British accent. The second x factor is the beat, which is held together by the swirling guitars, Archies rhythmic lyrics and a fantastic drum loop. I recently (yesterday) found out that King Krule would be opening for a Girls concert for which I had already bought tickets and couldn’t be happier about seeing two great acts for the price of one.
