Track of the Moment- My Dog Was Lost, but Now He's Found

So wow The Fiery Furnaces. That band has had a bit of a mixed career in terms of critical reception. Their first two albums both garnered much deserved respect from critics, while their later albums received only mixed reviews and never quite lived up to their first two. With that said those first two are fantastic especially their second, Blueberry Boat. It at times sounds like something that Bernstien might have written, a few tracks sound like they easily could have been written for a rock based musical like Grease or Westside Story, and heck I would argue that most of the songs on Blueberry Boat are better than tracks from those two musicals. There sheer musical know how and capacity to write songs that seem natural but at the same time are very unnerving and unusual is uncanny and quit impressive. A particular favorite (and one of the few songs from Blueberry Boat that is not over eight minutes long) has to be the cut My Dog Was Lost but Now He’s Found. Seemingly on every verse the instrumentation changes, and although the rhymes of the lyrics and the song structure are strikingly ordinary, the shifting instrumentation and the hurriedness of the narrator chasing all over town give the song a strange urgent feeling
